LimeWorks

Concrete or plaster layers on foamboard surfaced with polished and textured slaked lime.  Holes drilled through panels are blackened with charcoal.  A limework’s placement on a white or grey wall establishes its presence within a field of light. .

Quicklime is the result of a chemical reaction made by burning limestone with wood or coal CaCO3 + heat → CaO + CO2 —(with charcoal as a remain). “Quicklime” is then "slaked" with water to make a strong mortar from which to build .

Lime kilns “limeworks” were likely the earliest technology for transforming the detritus sedimentation from ancient ocean lifeforms into a useful product for construction with an atmospheric byproduct of CO2 …… the burning and slaking of lime initiating human’s relentless emissions of carbon into earth’s biosphere.
